I wondered about safety as a woman traveling alone. I had a friend who recently went to nicaragua and doesn't recommend traveling there solo. Do you have any more thoughts? I'm considering Peru (Machu Pichu) but no beach!

I live alone and probably spend way, way too much on food. But hell, I can afford it and it's one of my pleasures. I probably cook and eat out equally. But I live in San Francisco and wonderful food options are everywhere. I probably spend $100 or $150 a week, much more if I have a fancy dinner or two.
