While I agree, I think this targets people who think that because something is expensive it makes it better. I've consumed very expensive meals where I thought "did I really just pay for that?" and other cheap meals with pleasant experience.

I'm the youngest of five and graduated with my BS and MA almost a decade earlier than my oldest sibling. I've traveled more than anyone in my family and have consistently earned more than anyone in my family. Did I mention I was also very humble? ;).

It's a counter suit. The driver didn't choose to sue until the families filed after she wasn't found criminally liable. Both parties can 'win' and since she filed for higher, it's probably to mitigate her civil liability and attorney/court fees.
