I always thought that trigger warning were less for those likely to be triggered and more for those issuing the warnings, so they can feel like they’re being polite and considerate and, in some cases, avoid liability.

Yep.  When I read the line about “Is there anything left to celebrate” I was thinking “yes, the fact that you don’t live in one of the other hundreds of countries that genuinely have worse governments and civil liberties”.
