I'm not really sure why this is getting so much haterade from the comments. Sure it's privileged and superficial, but superficiality and displays of privilege are all.over.this site, and nobody cares all that much.

@Blodwynn: But she says she'd rather have her job.

@MaggieDanger: Actually, I feel like this article is exactly looking with a critical eye at the way she felt good about patriarchal approval. The whole point is that she lost her job and lost weight—but instead of people pitying her, or recognizing the soul-crushing reality of job loss and the attendant identity

Oh my fucking god with the "World's oldest profession" bullshit. It makes me want to scream.

@allgoodpeople: Except that when you're talking about underage girls and sex trafficking it's less "the world's oldest profession" and more "child rape and raping slaves," so way to see that shit through rose colored glasses of delusion.

@Sputnik_Sweetheart: In Rome most people live with their parents until they get married. In most countries it's unusual for single 20-somethings to live alone in apartments. Think about how grossly environmentally unfriendly it is, too. The trend of Americans living alone is part of why we're also the most wasteful

@lurkerbynature: Yes. Also all the sort of blood-sport, killing-animals traditions that I can think of (like bullfighting, and hunting) don't involve killing puppies. All the hunters I know aim to shoot grown animals once, so they die right away, and the hunting is a means/entertainment in itself but also a source of

@voteforme: What are you talking about?

@voteforme: You do realize that 13 year-old children are children, right?

I can't believe that their reaction was that she's not technically old enough to have a FB account.

@herbie: How do you know the girl had unlimited and unsupervised access to tech? My mom and dad use FB to stay in touch with their siblings and their kids, and their friends. If a 12 year old wanted to make a profile for herself and was friends with her family members, and used it to look at pictures or play games or

I had to stop watching the "i hate sydney dalton" video, but it's absolutely crazy to me that the girl was like, "I have had enough of this shit. I mean I didn't even know who she was 10 minutes ago."

@duck_duck: Are you fucking kidding me?

@clothandcake: "BMI is imperfect. It is also very useful, and astonishingly predictive in many contexts. It's a basic guideline. Look, folks who actually use BMI (e.g., health researchers) don't walk around pretending it's the gold standard of health."

@BringerofthePain: When women are aware of the danger men represent to them, it isn't sexist or immature. It's fucking sensible.

@DepecheNode: Yeah it is funny how some people (douchey men) don't care about civil right violations (the rape of women and children by men) when it doesn't affect them.

@BringerofthePain: I was being sarcastic because your comparison of women's concern about sexual assault statistics to Animal Farm was not only facile and naive, but ridiculous and nonsensical at best.

@DepecheNode: Maybe that's what you're talking about. Maybe that's what you're concerned about.

@Abstrusan: You realize that 25% of girls are assaulted before they're even 18? 1 in 6 boys are molested before they're 18? (citation) That's not even counting the women who get raped as adults.

@BringerofthePain: What? Please explain your obscure literary reference. I do not understand these complex things of which you speak.
