What is the correct term for black people nowadays anyways?

Please tell me how he should have worded it, Im genuinely curious. Colored isnt offensive to me, should he have called them "black"? "Tribal"? "African-British"? All this shit is a maze especially in the US where no matter what you say it will be offensive and words that are fine this month are offensive next month.

I would love to know what he should have used. Its so confusing nowadays with all the conflicting views on political correctness. Is "people of color" that much better than just colored?
