I just called PG&E to change to an “EV plan,” and they told me to wait until after midnight now to charge, if possible, and it’d be cheapest between midnight and 3AM. Which makes sense. Sounds inconvenient, but with my EV I can set the charge times, and I think many home charging stations allow you to do this now too.

I also work in the power industry here in San Diego. The grid is fine, we will need more transmission to be built for more renewables and batteries, but California’s electric sector planning, particularly the resource adequacy program has lagged behind the renewable build out since 2015 that many gas resources were

Maybe if grids fucking installed peak load batteries and also encouraged people to install batteries in their home, they wouldn’t have to... deal with peak loading and having so much excess power generation in the rest of the day.

This 100%.

I don’t think it’s too much of an exaggeration to say that this ruined America.

And if the government, are we talking state or federal?

I suspect part of this is due to the fact that most EV motors are mounted in line with the axle, buried in the guts of the cars and not easily photographed without disassembling things. but your broader point is very true: EV drivetrains just don’t generate the visual curiosity of a hulking V12 (which is what would

Stirling Moss without a doubt. 16 poles, 16 wins, and 24 podiums out of 67 race entries (a higher rate than many F1 world champions), and an absolute class act as sportsman - he actually lost the championship one year because he defended the eventual winner (Mike Hawthorn) from being given an incorrect penalty, when

And a reminder - in some cities, like NYC, Airbnb can be quite illegal, done by landlords because it’s more profitable than leasing their apartments, without any of the services that hotels provide. Like security. Like not being able to know if the previous ‘tenant’ made a copy of the keys.

I think that should be “geographically diverse” not “geologically diverse” in the teaser line.
