I WISH the US would adopt more roundabouts. I lived in Palm Desert for almost 7 years and they had a couple of roundabouts in higher traffic areas, and it just flowed so nicely.

Small town cops that pull you over and just go on a fishing expedition when you have plates from outside the county. God forbid you have plates from out of state.

For me - as a civil engineer working in transportation - it’s our undying need to put in a traffic signal or a 4-way stop where a roundabout is really the perfect solution. Do any amount of driving in Europe outside the main city centers, and you almost never come to a stop, you just flow from roundabout to

Small town cops looking to make a quick buck

I spent a good part of my life living in Germany and what always amazes me is how bad Americans are at driving.

Also people who don’t signal, people who don’t know what YIELD means and people who think they can make their exit from the far left lane

In fact, there’s a word for the biological process where the cells in your toes divide and divide again.

Why? That looks a high schoolers rendering after a few weeks using blender

I’m glad that you were the one to report on it, though I’m disgusted with Jalopnik that it’s taken this long for the news to make it to headlines here.

Or almost straight line them. Using weight shifting to maintain momentum as you change direction is a lot of fun.

TOS: “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” “Space Seed,” “Balance of Terror”

like in most accidents both are at fault here. sedan driver had ZERO awareness whats happening behind him, not checking his mirrors or using turn signal, had he looked and stopped everything would be fine, using turn signal would probably have the truck start slowing down and make it on the right side.

I read an economist somewhere (maybe in Freakanomics?) studied it and found out speed bumps kill more people than they save.

In my neighborhood we have a lot of speed bumps. And the people that this is really directed to still ignore them. They just penalize the people who drive sanely.

Question: I have no context for where this guys house is located, and the population density for the area, but is any of this due to the relative sparseness of people in some neighborhoods?

Fuck speed humps. They are truly the worst of all traffic slowing devices.
We used to have these chicane-like things through only 1 car could go at a time. Those are much better. Same slowing down (unless you’re particularly motivated and drive a Lotus or so) but without the harsh impact on suspension and comfort.
But

Speed bumps (or traffic calming) is a complete waste of money. I have one in front of my house, one house away. People either drive around it (there’s a foot wide sliver bump free sliver of pavement allowing two wheels to escape the bump while placing the speeding car immediately next to the sidewalk) or they speed up

Unpopular opinion: I HATE speed bumps. 95% of them are poorly designed/implemented and serve primarily to mess up your suspension. I understand that people are bastards who wouldn’t slow down for their own mother, and it’s their fault things are the way they are. Just ask new england drivers tailgating me as I strive

The only people who slow down for speed bumps are those that care about their cars. The idiots that drive 50mph through a neighborhood are rarely part of that group.
