The idea here is that the city had a nuclear power plant that could supply a quarter of its needs at Indian Point but the plant was recently sbut down and has not been replaced. Would have been nice to have it now.

Imagine if NYC had a nuclear powerplant that was able to produce an abundance of high quality electricity for the city and sell the surplus at a profit that benefitted the area?!

And orange carnival barker presidents.

This is a WTF blast from the past. You don’t see to many adds targeted at successful cult leaders, human traffickers, and televangelists these days.

Yeah, that’s pretty fucked up.

So these were rally “secretary’s cars”.

Ehhhhh... mostly, cold pizza serves for most purposes, but I’d bet that there’s a secret special microwaving method that would be tasty.

Hold up. Are we really putting this out there like it’s a legit contest rather than a shameless attempt by this company to get a year’s worth of freelance writing out of someone for a $500 travel stipend? Because that’s what this is. A goddamn unpaid internship. This is a cheap-ass company not wanting to actually pay

This actually comes primarily from one study and the person who conducted it has since updated their position. Without a change in population, the added traffic of having good roads is about 10% because there aren’t infinite cars waiting to get on the road. There’s just people who are no longer avoiding roads because

It’s hard to take you seriously after your last article about why you felt bad for buying a car.

but I still want to have some street cred with my uncles and cousins who still dominate the dirt track where I grew up.”

Agreed. Looking at the F2 and Formula E races at Monaco, it’s pretty apparent the current cars are too big for those tiny tracks.

You lecture as if nobody except you has thought of these things.

Well said.  I’m a pretty avid environmentalist, but revving an ICE under load through a performance exhaust is deeply satisfying.  You can enjoy this and still get 30+ mpg while we wait for affordable performance oriented EVs.

There’s much of the expect dunking and snark in the comments here, and as much as I understand that, I think this is a great chance for us all to learn and grow here.

The way Dharna talks about this stuff I kind of doubt they have many friends with that particular sister site lol.

If only they had a writer whose entire column is devoted to answering car buying questions, and perhaps also bought cars professionally as his career. If only.

The actual process was demoralizing because having never owned one, I know next to nothing about cars. I found myself Googling things like “how to buy a car and not be dumb” and “am I getting ripped off car.” I didn’t know how much to spend or what to look for.

The utter irony...

I became comfortable bartering with my friends for rides, insisting on buying them sandwiches or bottles of wine in exchange for an inconvenient trip to pick me up.
