I think that the trick is to find the balancing point between reheating and cooking. Yeah, it’s still going to be more rubbery than when it was fresh out of the oven, and yes, you can reheat pizza in a frying pan in, like, 3 minutes... but it works!

“Applicant must have strong opinions on whether the glass-of-water trick works or not.”

Just because it’s the riskiest thing that most of us do on a daily basis doesn’t mean it’s dangerous. Not only is the crash rate per VMT measured in the “crashes per hundred million” range, but the fatality rate is even lower and almost always involves some insane mitigating circumstance (e.g., DUI, no seatbelt). If

Yeah, driving should not be scary. 99% of it is so easy that a robot can do it.

Especially since our population has been doing the opposite. Urbanists like to talk about people moving into cities, but for the entire last century, the vast majority of migration has been from rural areas to suburbs, with the second-largest migration trend being from cities to suburbs.

Also, properly-functioning mass transit is always going to be slow than a properly-functioning personal car transportation system, simply because you don’t have to stop for other people as often. The only way that mass transit can compete on time is by making car commute times worse, which is just bitter grapes.

Shouldn’t the negative social pressure about taking Uber be way worse? I’d rather drive a friend someplace than let him or her take one of those underlicensed, VC-subsidized, law-flouting taxis.

Congratulations on the car! Please let the Jalop community help you out with any questions or concerns. For example, we'll be happy to note that those car crashes you cite are statistically comically rare and no reason to feel guilty - unless you're a bad enough driver to cause one :-(

Exactly. I’ve tried to correct GMG authors on this site since the days of Alissa Walker - most of the increases in driving can be attributed to changes in land use, not merely the provision of more lanes. That means that in built-up areas, the incremental effect of adding lane-miles is almost nil.

GTI. None of the options matter, the base car is just as good.

Yep, that’s always how it works:

listening to loud music music .

What about the humidity? I would think that the only really bad part about leaving your thermostat that high is that your A/C will kick in less often and hence everything will get more humid. Do you augment with a standalone dehumidifier?

In California, we have a program where a company will send you free smart home stuff, like thermostats, in exchange for participating in these “virtual power plant” demand response programs. It’s extremely up-front. They text and e-mail you before they do anything, and of course you can always override it.

How about this for an explanation:

Anybody who’s turned off by the complexity has options to either only vote for their top candidate, or not vote. (Which might not be a terrible thing if they can’t be bothered to figure out something so simple as, “But who’s your second choice?”)

Also Monk, same basic idea.

Good bars will weed these morons out. Quickly and violently.
