To be fair the complaint from Bluehole isn’t just “how similar it felt”. I would say the most pressing concern is that the company that literally provides support for their game’s engine is directly competing against them. Big potential for conflict of interest there.

So if Valve gets sold we get HL3. But I’m not sure how I feel about that. It would be an obvious cash grab for the new owner so I’m not sure how much of the original team/vision they would include.
