Licensing issues actually. AMD would need to license Physx in order to start working on it for their own products. Yes, they could still work but why when you can make your own in-house product. From a consumer aspect theres no much of a difference if you have adequate hardware.

Still rockin an HD5850 non-reference card on stock settings I purchased back in 2010 and still able to play the latest titles. Don't need max settings on everything. Haven't really had any driver issues other than the newest titles optimization, but not like Nvidia never has to optimize.
