No. No they don’t. My union contribution is barely noticed and is tax deductible.

As to the rest of your paragraph, I don’t even know where to start. Just. No.

The idea of the rugged individualist and the guy who makes it by pulling himself up by his bootstraps are two of the most toxic lies America tells itself.

Oh ok then. You’re random factoid has swayed me.

Yes. But sadly, unions are the devil and all you need is bootstraps.....

Sure that would be nice if people made rational choices and made sure they were able to pay for them. But people aren’t rational and neither are the choices they make. And this of course doesn’t even begin to touch on the fact that we are slowly becoming aware of how generational poverty affects brain development,

Because unless there is a livable wage attached to a job then the government is basically subsidizing a corporation through SNAP and other welfare programs.

That would be one argument.

The state of education, is in theory fine. Research continually shows that educational outcomes are closely tied to your parents income bracket. This has been shown time and again.

As more and more people fall into poverty, the education system suffers because the education system was not designed to address poverty,

I feel it’s important to remember that in the early fight for labor protections and standards, the rhetoric was one of “We fought the British so that we’d not be ruled by rich aristocracy.....we should all share in prosperity.”

Well....look where we are.

UNIONIZE! As the only bulwark against run away plans and intentions of capital, labor has been getting the short end of the stick for nearly 40 years.

It’s almost as if organized labor unions provided a counter balance to this by organizing for solid pay and benefits.

Oh well, I’m sure the 1% and .01% need that extra

Actually Wong has always been in the comics. No role was created for that actor, he was always going to be a c haracter

So wait. Why not ask the person being vocal about the very issue? Like literally talking about it to the media?

He doesn’t do well with money though....

If you want to fix the education system, get to work fixing poverty.

So you’re basically saying, we need a check on the power of an employer to exploit workers but unions are not the way to go?

And yet the data does not bear out that right to work laws are good for workers or the state. So that kinda throws your entire point out the window.

“The most rigorous research study available–published in 2011 by the nonpartisan Economic Policy Institute and conducted by Heidi Shierholz (now the chief economist of

Anyone who says that labor unions have run their course or aren’t needed any more is basically disregarding the history of how exploitative those that hold the means production can be without having their power checked.

Far from the idea that unions are no longer needed, I’d argue that we need a global world wide union

No matter how you slice the data, wages in RTW states are lower, on average, than wages in non-RTW states.

Saddest thing I read today.

Till I started reading the international news. Then it wasn’t even in the top 10 :(

Hamilton, I’m a teacher, a proud member of my union and in the week since the election I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching. I work with at risk and vulnerable populations, I assumed I could just do my job and that would be my contribution to the world. I don’t think this is true any more.

Part of that soul
