This does seem unnecessary, and it'd be a waste of Kojima's time at least. Here's hoping he(and Konami) move on soon. But if someone has to remake it, maybe Infinity Ward? ReadyAtDawn? I want to say Naughty Dog, but I love the Drake too much for them to change gears to Metal Gear.

@Kanji08: Well done. I agree, I already have great crashes in Pacific Rift and Burnout Paradise. If I buy GT5, it will be to play a professional driving sim, trying to stay on the road and avoid other cars. I do think Polyphony should improve the damage, but it's not a main attraction of GT.
