Unfortunately, bumping it up to the Alienware 15 (which has a quad-core CPU) also adds 3lbs to the weight, which is pretty much unacceptable for my usage patterns. At a certain point, I’ve got to accept some sort of sacrifice for keeping the laptop reasonably light. If you have any recommendations for a better option

Problem is, the new Alienware 13 laptops are similarly priced and DO come with an integrated GPU... but at double the weight. That’s pretty much where you’ve got to make the choice. Is the weight savings worth losing the GPU? That choice is going to depend very heavily on the individual.

I think there’s a market segment you’re not considering: people who like PC gaming, but are not hardcore PC gamers anymore. I like having the capability to do some desktop-style PC gaming or 3D modeling from time to time, but most of my PC usage these days is a small display (12”) laptop on the couch.

Has anyone ever written an alternate history where the US capitalizes on its nuclear advantage and smashes the Warsaw Pact in the early 50’s? It’s a scenario I don’t see discussed very often. Same deal with using nukes early and often to repel the Chinese during Korea.

I would have also vastly preferred a somewhat more “serious” game. The humor in Borderlands often falls flat for me.

HYYYYYYYYYDRO THUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNDER HUUUUUUUUUUURICANE!

Part of being president is being able to prioritize, but I’ll take an intelligent knowledgeable response over Trump’s idiocy any day of the week.

Rubio kinda ducked on the answer, though... “everything’s important!” The correct answer was submarines, and he should have kinda shut up after he said that.

Me, too. I was a bit skeptical of it from both the plot description and the graphics, but it’s turning out to be a fun, engaging game. The excellent translation really helps pull you in.

I’m a very lucky guy in many ways. Can’t deny it, but also won’t apologize for it. I have tried to help out my less-fortunate friends as I can - picking up the tab for lunch and activities, hosting for dinner, handing them stuff I don’t need that they could use, etc.

Define “can’t afford”. Can’t afford a big ceremony, sure, I believe it. Can’t afford to go to the county courthouse and register their marriage... less convinced.

I found a job before my severance ran out, too.

Perhaps he’s indulging a bit of paternal instinct by helping you out. It’s easy to get hung up on the idea of “wealth transferance”, and not really see that, in smaller amounts, it’s often just parents trying to take care of kids even though they’re out of the house. They spent 18-22 (possibly more?) years taking care

Interesting. After I got a job and got married (which happened in rapid succession - very convenient!), I cut the cord to my (and her) parents pretty quickly. Auto insurance, health insurance, car, cell phones, etc. It wasn’t IMMEDIATE and they didn’t care - nor would I expect it immediately from my own kids when they

Shh, I’m trying to cover for them!

It’s a failure of the writers, really. You know what they were trying to do - give the player some motivation to drive the story. It’s just that they picked something that a normal person would have found emergency-urgent, and then didn’t move the story along like that.

“Or how, for whatever reason, some of the residents are carrying around ammo for handguns.” To be fair, this is essentially a world modeled off a extreme Red Scare, no gun control (GCA68) society that has been experiencing serious social disruptions due to resource shortages. It seems plausible that they’d be packing.

They’d give ‘em guns if they wanted to invade. “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.”

I definitely got your point. Just trying to justify myself, I guess. Have a happy Thanksgiving. :)

“People whose political beliefs otherwise run along the lines of “You have to protect yourself against the government’s tyranny” are perfectly content to overlook this stuff, mostly because of prejudicial fears and a lack of empathy with other cultures.”
