Not really. The sports fans are getting a great deal - higher taxes in exchange for something they’ll use. It’s their neighbors who don’t even like baseball but are also paying those higher taxes who are getting completely screwed, and the sports fans are completely ok with that setup.

It makes perfect sense if you are (a) a town official who gets wined and dined and treated like a big shot for a while (b) someone who loves sports and can get your fellow townspeople to subsidize your entertainment, or (c) both (this is the ideal).
