In fairness, your straight whine bores me too. This style of music is notoriously anti-gay.
See, no one wins at the Oppression Olympics.

But flipping that around, is there such a thing as a global black culture?
I love how white people and academic black people are pretty much the only ones who get offended by this shit and then feel the need to tell everyone else why they should be offended... You all remind me of church missionaries trying to save my soul from sin.
I am that black person, and it is annoying as hell. I don't really give a shit about all this "cultural appropriation," and I honestly understand why a bunch of white people feel the need to be offended for me.
At first, I strongly disagreed with this article until I got to this line: "She can play at blackness without being burdened by the reality of it.." Now I get it. As a white girl who grew up in, what i have always called the 'hood, and was the only white girl around, these things didn't feel like black culture or…

You can't have this one both ways: either pop music created by non-dominant cultures is open to enjoyment and emulation by people outside that culture, or it is off limits to anyone not from that background and we therefor can't complain about limited sales…
What I find most disturbing about this trend is how the girls who are trying to gain entrance into this lower socioeconomic "club" always end up objectifying women in the process. It's like their thought process goes, "Hmm, all of the bad ass rappers treat women like objects, maybe I should too." I was disturbed when…
This is an interesting and thought-provoking piece.
