I’ll be honest, I had no idea painting your face black was such a horrible thing to do. Yes, it would have seemed weird, but I wouldn’t have thought of it as something with such a heavy racist connotation to it.
Functionality mostly. Even in an urban setting, giving them proper hands on each extremity would allow them to traverse any type of terrain a lot faster and provide the agility needed for climbing almost any kind of structure.
