Well it is absolutely common knowledge that pixar adds cameos from their other movies. For example Luxor the lamp making cameos in Wall-E, the Incredibles, Toy Story 1-3 etc. I guess Disney Pixar is following suit. The Little Mermaid is a cool and interesting connection though!
