It seems the spotter wasn't in a good position to see the dolly was out of line either. He was to the left side making it difficult to see it crabbing, and further, from that position the guard rail that it hit wasn't visible.

it was ingenious. It was undetectable when the turbo was off the engine for inspection. Only when the entire intake system was bolted in place would the extra passage open up.

they got banned for a couple years after that stunt - 95/96. They did it because they were uncompetitive otherwise. It make you wonder if the 99 season championship was legit.
