I should clarify—I meant in the case of making a fan-translated repro cart solely for yourself, or as a gift to a friend. Never to be sold. I can understand wanting to have it on your shelf. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Context is a big aspect. Really depends on who’s producing and who’s selling. Like, if AGTP came straight out and said “enjoy our Shin Megami Tensei patch for free, or kick us some cash for a cartridge if you want”. Still legally grey but I have way less of a problem with it.
I kind of get it though; fan-translated versions of these games usually don’t exist in physical form. Give it a nice label and put it in a well-designed box, that’s a cool thing to have on your shelf.
Very true, but I think it’s the principal of the thing and whether or not you’re comfortable with supporting it. Most of these guys take old dime-a-dozen sports carts, replace the rom, print a nice label and sell it at a 600% mark-up. It may not be worth pursuing legal action, but I have to side-eye anybody who does…
It’s certainly interesting. I’ve made myself special jewel cases for fan-translated PS1 & PS2 games so they look nice on my shelf, but the thought of spending $40 to buy that from a shop...shady!
What do you think of places like VideoGamesPlus selling these, Jason?
In turn, I wonder if the people behind the narrative and direction were the same ones who came up with the petting scenes, or if it was shoehorned in by executives in an attempt to appeal to certain audiences?
Do they actually think they’re going to get away with going after such a high profile anti-swatting politician? Somebody is going to jail.
Did you ever play Konami’s Ring of Red on PS2? It did some pretty fun stuff with that idea. Hulking clumsy mechs in the early 1950s that required a whole crew to operate.
Yes! Came here to post exactly this. Japan didn’t become a bleeding-edge tech giant until *after* being beaten and forced to renounce war forever. Their devotion to building gadgets, robotics and the like was a direct response to the sanctions placed on them by the west; it was developed as a soft power.
On top of being human waste, it’s said that Johnny Kitagawa has mob ties. Poor Smap.
This is a very high-profile slaying in the UK because she was a former Eastenders actress. I hadn’t realized she was in FFXIV as well.
wat
PS3 supports the PS1 disc, too. So no need to buy again if you’ve got one of those! unless you want it on the go for Vita, which is valid.
Trails in the Sky SC was finished and actually made it out!
And yet, it doesn’t matter and the contest has no bearing on anything. So let’s have fun and do something different this year, no?
From what I understand Famitsu is quite often guilty of collusion. Japanese and Western gaming press is quite different.
Yeah, Pewdiepie has made menstruation and rape jokes but I watched a handful of Markiplier and although I found him very grating, I can’t recall him cursing or making any off-color comments. He seemed like a fairly safe children’s entertainer to me. Let’s not tar everybody with the same brush, no matter how annoying…
Not at all, he’s one of the most divisive figures of youtube stardom. I can’t stand him, but I’m also about 20 years too old to be his target demographic. I’m sure my parents thought the stuff I loved as a preteen was insipid drivel too.
Oy. Don’t give $40k to a game that uses default RPGMaker assets.
