Perhaps you can involve yourself in a few specifics. Such as where you think I set the goalposts and where I have moved them to. So we can see how far I moved them.

I find it eminently weird that so many of you, seeing someone disagree with the childish notion that we can just do away with Capitalism to mean that I think any of the world’s 190-something economic systems is beyond improving.

I concede that Singapore is a tiny country and all but useless to use as a example of really anything.

I don’t need to read up on anything. I understand that socialist policies can be incorporated into a capitalist system as we have seen in every single capitalist nation on earth.

I don’t know why people like you feel like you do. I want to blame the internet.

The title of the article refers to “late stage capitalism.” The term ‘late stage’ means at the end of. Meaning she thinks we are at the end of capitalism.

You are more pessimistic than me. At the base level, I’m free to sell my goods and services to you and I’d be a fool not to get as much as you are willing to pay.

You are just running away from the point. The “challenge” was simply to show me a real world place from present day or history that showed a successful economy without a free market to some extent.

Um, you have what we have. Regulated capitalism with a few industries (mostly doing public benefit type things) run by the government.

I haven’t. Have you? Was it awesome?

Typically, before you might build a bridge over the world’s largest chasm, you’d start by seeing if your design worked over a small stream. We didn’t start with the moon landing.

Venezuela collapsed because one economic decision maker. If a corporation dies it dies. If the government is that corporation the government dies.

Tell me all about Sweden’s colonies. Explain why Chile’s standard of living is better than Venezuela’s.

Why do you think we disagree?  Multiple times in this very thread I mention fire fighting as a good industry to make completely government run. Same with lots of things. And I’ve never advocated for unfettered capitalism.

Would-be debater? That seems to be you. No one has yet taken up the challenge. To reiterate, what real world system do you like the best? And why?

I’m not talking about me. You are talking about you and that’s cool but I’m talking about what actually has happened when large segments of a society are put on the dole.

It’s what we have. I have always argued with conservatives about liberalism. They think it’s the path to socialism. I say no, if you actually read Marx it’s unchecked capitalism that leads to communist revolution. 100 hour work weeks, child labor, that’s how you get a communist revolution.

Care to point to what real-world system we should look to in envy and attempt to emulate here? Or are we just going to wing it because you don’t like it?

So what do you want besides not this?

This game aside, (which looks fun) I am curious as to what the alternative to Capitalism is. It’s not like we haven’t tried communism. It was a resounding failure in Russia. And East Germany. And Cuba, Ukraine etc.
