No. The complaint was not that this made white people look bad. Quite the opposite. It made black people look so bad that were anyone to avoid all the “white” behaviors mentioned, that person would have zero chance at succeeding in America or anywhere else.

I agree that any of us can be more or less tactful when someone serves us something outside our comfort zone. Sure. Up until fairly recently, pretty much everyone in the world was limited to plants and animals that lived near them. Spices might have come a long way, but the meats, grains, and vegetables we ate were local. One man’s goat was another man’s buffalo.

You said racism and classism were connected and then took no care to explain how that’s true in this instance. I think it’s far more true to say classism is misinterpreted as racism.

Doesn’t matter if both were texting. What matters is both were distracted (which we all are from time to time.) The issue is not looking at the phone, we all do it when we change the music or look at a map, the issue is the amount of uninterrupted time spent looking away from the road.
