I just use it for “I’m logged in to my normal SSO company account, and it would be a pain to log out, but need to test my app with a low authority account.”

Don’t need to convince all of humanity. Just a few of the right people.

No. 10 minutes after launch, they are nearly at orbital velocity. Without a full reentry system such as heat tiles, etc., the payload is not surviving. And even if it did, the parachute would just bring it down to the ocean, where anything useful will be quickly corroded before they can retrieve it.

It was clear pretty early on that it was not caused by a nation with peer-level nuclear capability.

Extinction would be a mighty motivator to launch multiple Starships if needed. SpaceX has already demonstrated how fast they can build one at much lower levels of motivation.

It also depends on how long we have before the impact. The earlier we can do it, the smaller the adjustment needs to be.

People are still going to want their pretend Superman or Neo avatar to have legs that work right.

Mining would be done in a very different way. You don’t want to blast the material you’re looking for across a thousand km tail streaking away from you. We’ve had several previous missions with a more gentle landing to preview a mining scenario.

I don’t have much to add, but this is the good stuff, and nicely covered everything.

But some true things have been called “misinformation” by those who were in charge at the time. I don’t trust a private company to make that distinction reliably.

Sounds like somebody thought the packing foam Lenovo uses would be good in a pit like this, instead of getting the stuff purpose-made.

Have you been on a roller coaster? They can often be loud enough, between the mechanical clanking and the riders screaming, you might not hear your phone until you walk away some distance.

There is a cabinet trim kit for doing a built-in mount, but not sure about specifically over range.

I have a new Panasonic model that had a knob you turn to change the time (or power)

No, COVID was never an extinction level threat. It did have a high-ish death rate among the unvaccinated about 1-2%, but your vaccination has already reduced that risk dramatically. Also, long COVID, in that small percent who do get it, is not in any way similar to HIV, which had no cure at that time.

True, the pressure is linear, but the engineering and structure strength needed is not.

I don’t think the sunroof thing really seals the top deck, it just makes it more streamlined when submerged, and/or keeps the deck chairs from washing away. (Not sure what the story is for the freshwater pool, though.)

Now playing

1) the first water to get hit by the asteroid is simply vaporized. It would take a few minutes for liquid water to move far enough. Also, at the speed of sound, it would still take a few minutes to cross the radius of the crater itself to reach open water where a wave could travel.

USB-C allows future versions. There will be a USB 4 or USB 5 at some point, and it will fit in the USB-C port. Just like a USB-A port can accept any plug from 1.0 to 3.0.
