Except the current chip shortage means they have X number of $1 chips that can either go in a 20k car or a 40k car. If they can’t increase X to match demand, guess which kind of car will get the chip? So for the moment, they can’t make it up in volume.

How many are still sitting on a ship in the harbor?

It’s not pluralized. It’s possessive. The name belonging to a company that belongs to a person.

I am blessed that my wife and I both agree on no onions.

Double pane glass? There are ways to insulate and still receive sunlight. I’m sure it wouldn’t be a simple tube like the experimental lab setup shown there that doesn’t have to worry about freezing.

There are other ports, but they are all much smaller. There’s no excess capacity, and a long lead time to build new cranes and docks.

Methane requires 4 H for every carbon. That’s not a little. You need two moles of H2 for every mole of methane produced. Plus the tank to store them in, and some more to account for the inevitable leaks.

Correction on Eros: It wasn’t the 2001 landing that contributed to our understanding of the Astronomical Unit, but the asteroid’s 1901 opposition to Earth. (And again in 1930, when the measurement was refined, also with help from Eros.)

Assuming it’s contained in the machinery to collect the fuel they produce, then it’s fairly easy to keep them warm. The rovers already do the same for their on-board batteries and electronics. Some insulation and heaters, it will be fine.

Hydrogen is about the worst thing to try to transport and store for months or years. Hydrogen has a habit of leaking out of perfectly sealed metal containers, because it’s just so small. It doesn’t compress well, so the tank has to be huge. It boils at very low temperatures, so you need serious refrigeration. And it’s

Second paragraph has an error:

Isn’t there a rental cost for the container? Seems like Maersk, ONE, or APL will want the container back at some point.

I don’t think Hueneme has any container cranes. They are only equipped for smaller ships.

Los Angeles almost put its port at Santa Monica instead of expanding down south. But I don’t think there was nearly as much room to expand there, and no protection from waves and storms.

It’s already valuable as-is, if we could just get it back on a ship before it heads out. China is running short of the containers because they are all sitting in the 40 ships anchored offshore here.

The Pleiades are not that far away, only 444 light years, so we’re talking about the days of Tycho Brahe and the first Queen Elizabeth.

Time to follow SpaceX and switch to stainless steel.

Now if Intel could manage to catch up on 7nm or 5nm process nodes, that might be useful. They were about 5 years late on 10nm.

Hint, if Facebook and Instagram are free, then you are not the customer. You are the product. The customer is all of the advertisers. Just like here on Giz.

In my experience, even the cheaper laser printers are miles ahead of inkjet for trouble-free printing. And the toner for a laser will last much longer in either pages printed, or in time sitting unused, while an inkjet will either dry up if you don’t use it, or be empty after fewer pages.
