Don't pass on the shoulder. I have been in bumper to bumper traffic so many times and people think it is completely okay to drive down the shoulder to "get ahead" of the traffic. Your episode of Matlock that you forgot to DVR will air another time. It is not worth it to cause more traffic.
How about when approaching construction zones instead of speeding ahead of all the traffic who are moving over into the non closed lane. Pay attention to the signs to not cause a traffic pile-up.
