They knew the bomb wasn't on a timer, because it exploded as another train was passing. Given that wasn't just a lucky (for the bomber) coincidence, but planned to happen to increase the carnage, the bomb had to be triggered by someone who was present and observing, because the train time tables aren't accurate enough

I'd say that playing it for laughs is just another way the original dies.

With fast zombies a lot depends on the incubation period. I never understood how the zombies managed to spread in 28 Days Later. The incubation period there was measured in seconds. Subjects are symptomatic in under a minute, and they then lose all higher reasoning skills, including the ability to work complex

Agreed. The problem with planning is not just that zombies don't exist, but that they can't exist. So you are dealing with some magical, non-science thing where logic and planning can't be relied upon to help.

Always interesting to read "big picture" stuff like this.

"When we first met Jocee, it was clear that she had something of the Helen Cutter weirdness about her (beyond her shock)." - well, yes, but why was that a problem? It was something the characters also picked up on, Stella especially. Stella hung around with Josie and the children trying to figure out what was wrong.

"Why does a power outage automatically open PRISON doors?" - presumably because to do otherwise could be a death sentence in an emergency, and they don't expect to have prisoners who deserve to die. Remember we in the UK don't have capital punishment at all, and maybe have a different attitude to the life of convinced

Apparently the first series ends with a cliff-hanger.

OkayOctane - agreed with all. I'd add that since we've had 9 other ships, the 10th isn't that big a surprise. It's been prepared; it's not nonsense, it didn't come from nowhere.

The colony is built out of the remains of the ships they arrived in. Why would that not include chairs? The chairs would spend the journey in use, not in cargo.

I think he means, if he won $300m, he'd spend $30m on Firefly and the rest on ladies with no clothes.

Um, it's not one in four innocent people. It's one in four of those who got convicted (and were later proved innocent). Presumably there were a lot more innocent people who didn't get convicted. The statistic doesn't say what you think it says. The actual figure is probably much lower (but not zero).

For me it's the other way about. Dollhouse got to where it was headed. I found the last episode an anti-climax. The journey was more interesting than the destination, and probably better for being condensed rather than spun out over 100 episodes.

That's typical of a lot of the criticism it's been getting, and I don't agree with it. Take the vinyl. It's a 5 year one-way journey: the passengers are going to be given a personal weight allowance for things of sentimental value that will help keep them sane. One guy used his allowance for old LPs. I expect other

Some of the early B&W episodes of Doctor Who got wiped by the BBC to save space, and most people think they are lost forever. It's nice to think they could in principle be required from the wave-front. Ironically, the person best-equipped to do this would be Dr Who himself.

If someone does abuse their toys, it's a bad sign: a sign they are not one of us. Not as bad as abusing animals, but on the same scale.

As a non-vegetarian, I think it's hilarious that even vegetarians won't eat their vegetables unless they can pretend it is meat. (I'm going by the vegetarian section of my local supermarket here.)

Good interview. In the UK we have a venerable programme called The Sky At Night, which is cool in that it has a lot of interviews with professional astronomers, and the interviewers are also very knowledgeable. Unfortunately they don't do such a good job of hiding their knowledge and letting the interviewee speak. The

I'm glad to see a positive review. The majority of viewers in the UK hated it. I thought the first episode was just about tolerable, worth sitting through to see where it went. It had some pretty major flaws, such as a terribly bad child actor, and a very predictable plot development, but I also found the background
