I'm nobody special, but I do have young nieces and nephews and god daughters, and I want them to be safe as they go about their lives. And I can be as pigheaded as anyone, but I also try to listen, and to learn.

Ah, you DO choose to stew in the juices of your faux self-righteousness.

"So I should feel threatened at all bars?"

You could not explain my own comments to me on your best day.

OK, we can both cut and paste. And clearly, I did not say, state, declare or tell anyone that their suggestions were dumb. Nowhere.

That's not what I wrote. My question still stands.

"I've been shot before. By a guy, at a bar, when all I did was spill his drink and offer to buy a new one. Should I assume all guys at bars are fucking nuts, and going to shoot me if I piss one off? No. He was black, should I assume bad of black people? No."

"you know, I've asked men if they've ever felt afraid walking down the street. Most have said never, some have said once or twice. And yet I've felt afraid like 50% of the time, many times I've been followed, harassed and yes, I've been assaulted. So I doubt we are having similar experiences making our ways

"Feeling afraid =/= having reason to be afraid."

"No. They don't. They go to bars by themselves, for a start."

"The "common sense precautions" thing really pisses me off when it's coming from men. Men don't really understand what it's like and their suggestions are essentially worthless."

"It's less a matter of not caring, and more about not being afraid of it anyway."

Ah, you ARE making this shit up.

"I hate to say it.. but once again beautiful black woman privilege rears its ugly head..."

But, but, have you ever been on TV?

"I can't believe I'm defending the little shit, but she probably thought he'd be fine."

"It's funny because they probably didn't believe Mr. Oaks, but as soon as the four year old white child starting talking. . . LOL. "

"Oh and can we not make the four year "hero" the centre of this tale. I'd rather spend efforts publicly shaming and criminalizing the 17 year old."

Are we talking about Olivia Wilde or Pippa Middleton?

"In his review of the film Third Person, GQ's Tom Carson..."
