Just because the 599 took a shit on convention doesn’t mean I don’t prefer my GTO Ferraris to have anything to do with homologation. Like the 288 GTO and 250 GTO. And not the bastard 599 GTO.

Cars would be significantly less fun to me if I had to rely on them for basic transportation.
The Renault 5 is a classic car because it represents something besides transport. I’d even say small cheap cars are more worthy of restoring because they represent the times much better than expensive luxobarges.
Please. Plenty people realize. And those people also realize you’re grossly oversimplifying. The actual valvetrain of the OHV engine is heavier. An OHC valvetrain is also simpler than a OHV valvetrain because you can ditch the rockers, lifters and pushrods.
Hail to the king
“Stick it to the bastards, we said, the Euro-snobs!”
Matt, let me help you out:
Could you show me examples of cars of the era in the same price bracket that were better cars than the Fiat 128? I am personally hard-pressed. Keep in mind this car was in the price bracket of a Morris 1300 and Ford Escort. A Datsun 510 was significantly more expensive.
Well, if something is terrible 90% of the time, but 10% of the time it is brilliant, it’s objectively a terrible car.
People who’s only knowledge about Italian cars comes from their racist uncle might not be aware, but Fiats and especially Alfas were always among the better driving cars.
As a fellow becaged, decarpeted, car owner I cannot agree. A carpet would hide a lot of dirt that gets deposited in the car from shoes.
“additional drivetrain loss by sending the power to the rear.”
- Tangential blowing reenergizes the boundary layer to prevent separation or turbulent transition. It doesn’t diminish the thickness of the laminar boundary layer thickness per se, and as such is a poor substitute for a rolling road. For SUV’s this is acceptable, not for cars which rely on low ground clearance,…
-No rolling road, not even an elevated platform to at least make a thinly veiled attempt at controlling the boundary layer of the floor.
-Guys standing in the airflow at random
-Smoke to ‘visualise’, but not measure airflow. Detachment point isn’t even descernible (seriously a barn door in a breeze also deflects the…
The military is out as these things were explicitly banned by the Geneva convention.
The Alfa Spider was always available and always offered loads of driving pleasure
You should get attention from authors one way or another. I do applaus your automotive choices
As an addendum (because I like the story), ‘2 CV’ literally means ‘2 horses’ as that was the taxed power of the car. Lots of pre-war french cars were ‘** CV’ to denote the fiscal horsepower.
Jason forgot to mention DAF is much better than FAF.
Reducing torque at turn in isn’t always the best thing to do. I know this because of the internet.
