The Dualshock 3 battery is significantly less than the Dualshock 4, you can't put the DS3's battery in the DS4 for more battery life.

Detaching the light will not impact battery life, it's the touchpad that drains the most power.

It's not the lightbar that does that, it's the touchpad. Touch interfaces drain a lot of power due to polling, which means it just keeps listening if it gets touched or not.
