I actually forgot that thing existed. PS1 development was hard and never really caught on homebrew game-wise because of limited availability of the toolset.

The other side of that is when pirated versions run better than the genuine ones. Like when HL2 originally launched and pirates could play it offline in peace or when pirates could run Arkham Asylum without having to worry about limited activations.
