It’s all good. I too find these threads hard to follow :)

Wow. A lot of hate here for a group of feminists that have done a heck of a lot more than I ever will to advance human rights. There are some amazing people in this group! Would the reaction here have been less negative if they hadn’t have invited Steinem to the group?in?
well to be fair they’ll spin anything, but that shouldn’t prevent people from trying to raise awareness and push for change IMO
I wonder why such a diverse group of amazing feminists invited her and what they hoped to accomplish? Alot of different cultures and experiences are represented in this group and I assume they had a purpose. Your comment seems really dismissive of their collective efforts. It might not make a ‘real’ difference but I…
Thank you for your explanation. I knew there wasn’t a referendum over the adoption of the charter but I wasn’t sure exactly how it came to pass. There’s a lot about Canada that I criticize but I am rather fond of that charter. My mom was fired from her job as a probation officer before this was enacted explicitly…
I am not sure why you feel it’s necessary to be so rude. I don’t need things explained to me in small words so I understand. I understand perfectly well that countries do not share a single format for their constitutions, if they have one. It was a direct rebuttal to the assertion that all countries can only alter…
I think the discord here is that, even though Ireland has come a long way and has made great progress, it still seems really under the yoke of the church to people not used to such ingrained Catholicism. SO I think both are true. It’s come a long way, and still has a long way to go. But this is a really positive sign…
People here are aware of it but yet the inequality still exists.
I was directly responding to the following assertion: “ any change to a countries constitutions need to be put to a popular vote, “ with what I believe to be a counterexample.
You know, I was thinking this referendum is great but it doesn’t save lives ... I hadn’t considered its effects on suicide and self-harm in the LGBT community. I see more now why pure celebration is in order as it can offer hope for the future too, for people who really need it.
xxxxx :)
That’s amazing. You’re amazing. I too was being overly emotional. I really am. It is an amazing achievement for Ireland and I am proud of this step in the right direction. I just have a bunch of mixed up emotions about the issues here and especially the Church. Please tell me if there’s an organisation you’d like to…
I would erase this comment for being reactionary and bitchy and it turns out totally untrue but it seems I can’t. Apologies Charmed212x
Well that’s nice of you! Thank you. I do get really upset about the Catholic churches’ influence and power and harm both as a woman and a FN person. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade and have been following this vote closely but I see red when people start downplaying the harm that the church continues to cause.…
ummm okay... I don’t think you can even recommend your own comments. That would be a bit silly. But you can keep making erroneous assertions if it tickles your fancy and attacking me because I guess I’m not people. I’m primarily involved with Mayo Pro Choice since you seem to be wanting me to validate myself…
Just because you assume something doesn’t make it correct. I live here and am a citizen and yet you think my perspective is to be ridiculed or dismissed while yours is somehow more important or beyond reproach. Not that who my parent is or my husband is should give me more legitimacy to have an opinion on this matter…
Looking through your posts you seem to be attacking anyone who has issue with Ireland’s inequality. Cool it.
If you read through my posts you would see that I said on more than one occasion I am happy with this vote and think people ought to celebrate. You don’t seem to be noticing I am disputing the notion that Ireland has achieved equality and that the Catholic church doesn’t have a stranglehold on women’s rights here. I…
Are you just totally ignoring Ireland’s abortion laws and the reason behind them, the Catholic church? If the church’s influence directly results in half the population not having rights over their own body, I consider that a stranglehold. Evidently you do not.
A country that outlaws abortion is one of the best countries to be a woman in? Really??????? People seems to be making a lot of amusing assumptions about my ethnicity, nationality, and citizenship. Why not jump on board! I would call controlling the bodies of half the citizens a lot of power.
