It has a stranglehold on women’s rights. But I guess that isn’t ‘anything’ to you.
It has a stranglehold on women’s rights. But I guess that isn’t ‘anything’ to you.
it’s still a fight for equality and all the Irish politicians in the news lauding Ireland as a leader in equality is fucking tragic as it ignores half of the population. I would not have brought it up here except as a response to the silly claims about the Catholic church’s influence in Ireland.
Harper is an absolute disgrace and I’ll be first in line to say that. What makes you think I wouldn’t criticise Harper or Canada or more laughably that I am not a Native American woman? Or that I haven’t spent the better part of my professional and academic career working to advance indigenous rights? Your baseless…
Funny. I think you’re the one who posted in all caps, commonly understood to be shouting, not me. I was objecting to the claim the Catholicism doesn’t have a huge influence in Ireland when clearly it does and impacts half the population’s right to control their own body. That is a pretty significant influence. No one…
People here are claiming that Catholicism is dead in Ireland when it clearly is not. Over a third of voters still voted against equality in marriage too. Clearly there are some deep rooted oppressive tendencies here which just so happen to align with the interests of the Catholic church.
I’ll take my bitterness when the law stops controlling my body. Or do you control the comments section here? No one is forcing you to read my posts.
I’m blaming the Catholic church and the stranglehold it has over Ireland. Which according to you means I’m racist.
ummm...racism? Catholicism is a race now? You have no idea what my political activities are but facts don’t seem to be your top priority. The irony of saying I am provoking you that calling me racist based upon nothing [and pretty hilarious that you assume I’m white...I guess you’re assuming that?]. Bury your head in…
um....what inaccuracies? Name one. Or do you like to blame the victim? Yelling at me doesn’t make the laws here against women any less reprehensible. I find it amazing you’d direct your aggression at me instead of against the laws that are aggressive over my body and probably your body too. These laws merit…
Diverting the conversation to my country of origin does nothing to counteract the reality that Catholicism has an immensely real and negative impact on Ireland. I know full well what creepy little girl bride dresses are called. It doesn’t surprise me at all to see them because Ireland is still inundated by…
Evidently people here are in deep denial over how much the Catholic church still controls their country. HALF the country is denied basic human rights because of the Catholic church, but oh no, Catholicism is dead here. What total bollocks. All the people gloating about equality while women are forced to gestate…
You know what else is unpleasant? Being denied bodily autonomy because of my gender.
redkoolaid no no silly Ireland’s oppression against women has nothing to do with the Catholic church and equality has been achieved, don’t you pay attention to the comments here? /s
What does the USA have to do with this conversation? Believe it or not, not EVERYTHING has to do with America.
Why does everyone keep comparing this to the USA? I’m certainly not American and Ireland’s bigoted laws affect me directly.
Defending women’s rights is always justified and always superior to not defending their rights. I am sorry to hear that about the USA but I’m not from there, the issue of women’s rights in Ireland affects me directly. So yeah. I’m gonna get aggressive about it because the law here is aggressive against me.
So living closer to someone gives you MORE rights to vote on their rights? That’s a load of bollocks.
But she’s NOT ignoring the three million Irish women being denied a basic human right. It’s a complete lie to say that Ireland has achieved equality when half the fucking population don’t have autonomy over their body because of their gender.
Really. That must be why Ireland voted against women’s rights and why there are those creepy little girl bride to christ dresses on sale everywhere and people get their babies christened all the time. Don’t delude yourself, the Catholic church has a stranglehold on your country. It’s pretty evident by the way you…
I’m pretty sure there was no referendum for the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
