The judge should fine her in exactly the amount she is paid for her job. They should state that they are effectively withholding her paycheck because she isn’t doing her job. While the religious right is still going to use her as a martyr, that would make it harder for them to justify it.
You’ve inspired me to settle in for a re-read (I was getting ready to start “Missoula”. It’s been on my kindle for months but I’ve been spending my book time on Jez...)
I feel as if we are kindred spirits, as those authors as well as Sacks have had a huge influence on me. I am a giant blubbery mess this morning because of his death and because I’ve packed his books to take with me and I can’t thumb through them for some comfort.
My favorite is Musicophilia. He had a great gift for making complex scientific concepts not only accessible to those outside his disciplines but relevant to our daily lives. RIP, indeed.
Along with Mary Roach, Jon Krakauer and Sebastian Junger he was so phenomenal about making his stories read like the finest of fiction. I loved his books. He also had an interesting personal life; shyness led him to be celibate for 35 years. He addressed his homosexuality in 2015 after embarking on a relationship in…
Cosigned. He was also absolutely fascinating to listen to. http://www.npr.org/2013/06/21/193…
RIP, Oliver.
Oliver Sacks, the influential neurologist best known for his books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Awakenings (the latter of which was adapted into a movie starring the late Robin Williams and was nominated for three oscars) has died at the age of 82. In Napa? Not surprising at all. Rich white people are literally the worst people on the planet.
When he called to ask if seeing a movie was cool with his wife she should have said no it's not that cool buddy. Why can't people use their goddamn words and be honest? What the fuck is wrong with humans?
Gahh!
I have a very similar story. Before I begin I just want to say I know that feeling, it’s awful, and I’m so sorry. Growing up I was very very vain about my hair. This will sound douchey but I did/(hopefully still) do have great hair. My mom worked at a salon for awhile so it was just kinda natural for me I guess.…
This is the lady who wears basically the same outfit everyday. So I’m going to go ahead and defend my fantasy friend here and say back up off my fake friend because she’s just being real.
I loved her in Office Space.
Let’s talk about “horrible people.” The plane got turned back to the gate because of her bullshit, ruining the vacations, business trips, or other urgent itineraries of her fellow travelers, whom she regarded as being less worthy of consideration than a fucking, yapping lap-rat. Further, Air Marshals were summoned.…
