We should be focused on educating people to create the world we want to live in. We also absolutely need to prepare people to live in the world we actually inhabit. That means taking responsibility for your safety. It does NOT mean that it's your fault if anything bad happens but it DOES mean that it's just smart

Agreed, if they are going to offer these cups they should offer them for free. They can't cost that much anyways and it is free promotion.

I have to agree. It's kind of like saying that you shouldn't keep a fire extinguisher in the house because, in perfect circumstances, you'll never have a fire.

Argh I'm so fucking sick of this idea that women shouldn't be taking responsibility for their own safety because in a perfect world they wouldn't have to. Living in a fantasy world won't keep you safe! Predators are out there, and they will continue to be out there. You can't just sit around waiting for society to

Speaking of racism, I know that Jezebel tends to center on social issues in America, but there is a huge rise in racist parties in Europe. Front-National, UKIP, etc. Plus the Germans literally got a neo-Nazi in the European parliament (I think they got 2 seats). The situation in the world is really, really scary.

Internet tough guy.

right? and what's with the "you've been warned" - who the hell does this guy think he is?

If I sound like a lawyer that is not a coincidence. And I am a damned good one. You have been warned.

Check out Jimmy J from Pittsburg, TX's review (sounds like a real peach, and a "damned good lawyer"):

I'm a straight girl. I've been rejected, and it sucks. But goddamn I never felt entitled to anything. I worked on improving myself. Two years into an amazing relationship with the dude of my dreams and I'm so glad I never even considered throwing it all away by gunning down a crowd of men.

One thing I've noticed in heterosexual situations:

Disagreeing with her political positions doesn't make sexist attacks acceptable.

I am in complete agreement. I despise both of these women for the idiocy and hate that comes out of their mouths. But, I hated the horrible sexist rhetoric surrounding Sarah Palin in the 2008 election. If it had been Todd running for VP, his parenting of a special needs baby never would have been an issue.

Ugh, well here goes nothing:

Sorry, your friends may be socially liberal but they are still racist. It's not ok, good that they knock it off when you tell them too, but I hope they understand why.

Are Holocaust jokes a go in Germany? Like when no Jews are around? Sincere question. I have white friends who are liberal and they'll tell hideously racist jokes when no people of color are around. They are progressive with their social politics for the most part but they sure as hell enjoy racist jokes until I tell

Oh for sure. I'm guilty of that if I don't catch myself. It's too easy to, for example, call Ann Coulter a skeleton i.e. criticize her looks along with her fucking horrible politics. That's a double-standard of sexism many liberal men (and women) deploy and we do need to be cautious to avoid replicating gendered norms

It will get better. I live in Germany and when Angela Merkel was elected it was awful. Even the most progressive media would go on and on about her being ugly. But that joke really wears of. It only took 10 years and now everybody is so sick of those jokes that you rarely hear them anymore.

I always hate it when I see people say misogynistic or body shaming things about Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin. Just call them idiots. It's a good enough word that doesn't make you part of the problem.

Depends entirely upon the context in which it is used. Allow me to offer you the OED definition, with a brief explanation of the contextual usage I applied:
