This is the part I don't understand. What is the basis for the argument that sentient AI will compete, would WANT to control and/or destroy humanity? Is there something inherent in computer programming that would makes this outcome unavoidable? I truly do not get it...

Just one guy's opinion, but hacking as gameplay was made to be pretty cool on an old school Genesis game, Shadowrun. It was fantastic. Lots of ways to customize your computer with software and hardware upgrades, and you could explore the world and internet more and more using your hacking skills.
