There are two major points I have to make here. One is about SotC as art in general, and the other is about a specific, monstrous crime it commits in the context of the push for the unique aspects of video games to be viewed as artistic instruments, rather than hindrances or aspects precluding games from the realm of…
First, I think you severely overestimate the amount of stupidity here. I can honestly say that I do not recall ever having used one of those phrases, nor the more odious ones that you missed. "Wow...just wow" is one of the worst, but "adjective-modified noun is adjective-modified" is the worst phrase-in-a-can on the…
You should have entitled this post: "A cameo that is out of this world!"
What Mawhorter is trying to argue is tantamount to saying "I read a book about a hero and an epic quest; it was poorly written, but when I tell other people about it, I will only be relating the facts of what happened, not the exact prose of the book, so it does not matter." But this is clearly wrong. To the other…
First, that people just "dick around" for a few hours proves nothing. For all you know, they buy long games because they know they will be able to do it for as long as they want, without fear of running out of content, since they know they will only play it for a little while.

So, any of you Brits care about the election? Any strong opinions? I have only followed at arms length, being American, and so am curious to know the mood over there.
@Point-3:
This is simple. Men play video games much more than women. More effort into male characters at the expense of female ones is justified and good. Sex-object females are another byproduct of the male-dominated market, and, again, are a good thing, as long as they are not the main character and are not supposed to be…

Now, I would talk about art and why Tavinor's accepted "definition" is wrong, and not a definition in the valid sense of the term, but there is a more fundamental aspect here, which he kindly notes early on. That aspect, which provides the erroneous foundation by which he completely avoids discovering the true nature…
Yes, it reeks of retribution. The subtle (?) bias here, however, is the distinct lack of commentary on Datel's crying to a bureaucrat to force Microsoft to essentially give its profits, earned by voluntary trade, to Datel, which reeks of corruption and destruction of individual rights. What is worse is that these laws…
There are some almost okay points here, but the article suffers from shallow (though not necessarily inaccurate) psychologizing. Because I enjoy writing, and because hopefully my doing so will improve the quality of commenters with whom I will deal, I will illustrate some of the real, valid reasons people play games.
@Vecha:
These school stories everyone is posting are great, and I agree with their spirit completely.
