I had the same type of instructor growing up. The hilarious part was that my parents loved how hard he was on us and it certainly made us tougher too. Sadly, I think a lot of people today would be complaining about his teaching methods. But you don’t build toughness without enduring pain.

Mix of it all really. Fighters get hit a lot and aside from being used to getting hit, you also learn how to take them better (knowing when to tighten up and when to loosen up and absorb).
