Here in Chicago I've worked with the Campaign to End the Death Penalty for many years. Having met several of the men exonerated from death row after being tortured by police under former commander Jon Burge (and others who weren't tortured but were just innocent and wrongfully convicted), this is a huge victory for

I've drastically reduced my reading of and comment time on Gawker/Jezebel/IO9, etc since the new design, and, sorry, but these little piddly fixes aren't going to help change that.

Fair enough. I only meant that Spielberg deleted the lesbian sex scenes in the book from the movie and explicitly downplayed the nature of their relationship. Still, a serious omission.

Umm...Whoopi Goldberg in the Color Purple? Again, coded in the movie...though explicit in the book.

We redesign our web sites to be totally annoying and confusing in a bid to drive you away...oh, wait, got mixed up there.

@ihavethesedreams: I feel your pain (18.5 inch calves here...I have legs like a mighty oak.) If you look downthread, lots of people asked for wide-calf boot recommendations, and there seem to be are a lot of great suggestions.

@luchita: Thanks for the tip! (Wow, ask and Jezebel provides!)

And for those of us with extra-, extra- wide calves? Sadly, I've never found a galosh/tall boot that could accommodate me. (Which especially sucks being in Chicago.)

@francofile001: They're not "shaming" her. The article states they don't have the resources to handle potty accidents-especially not 8 in less than a month.

@NickelMD: It's not about being "tolerant" in this case—it's about that specific school not having the resources and ability to care for kids who are not fully potty trained (there are strict state regulations about day care setups with diapering stations, vs schools that don't have those.) Every time a kid has an

@breadprincess: I think there's a big difference between day care facilities that are able to handle diapering, etc., and preschools that may not be set up for that. There are all sorts of state regulations that get very specific about sanitation, location of diapering stations, water and location of hand washing

@regazza.di.lupo: Exactly, thank you! Every time you have to clean up a kid that's had an accident it takes an adult away from the rest of the class, as well as creating a sanitation problem (assuming floors, etc. have to be washed down and sanitized.) If the kid's not ready (and 8 accidents in less than a 30 day

@poppy: If the school has a "must be potty trained" policy, they may not allow pullups/diapers. And, even if they did, it would still mean an adult would have to change the kid if she had an accident, since you can't leave a kid in a wet/smelly diapers for 6+ hours. Not all preschools are set up with a diapering

Child care is expensive, and I feel for this mom. She's right that it's developmentally normal. (Although I'd also add that good child care is expensive BECAUSE child care workers do an important job and DESERVE to be paid well.)

@linworthnewt: My mom used to turn the light on to trick the hamster into thinking it was daytime and sleeping. (Which is why our hamsters never lived very long, I guess.)

A cameo from Party Down's Roman?

Don't be so shocked to see this in Time.
