Gears of War done in that style would work better than this. Gears of War is goofy and over-the-top. It would be different, but still possibly pretty cool. The first thin that came to mind when you mentioned Gears of War done in the above style is the game “Shank”.

I would be down with a reboot of Captain N: The Game Master done in that style, with Samus as one of the characters.

Exactly. Keep good things good forever and ever. Make entirely new good things instead of ruining things that are already good.

It’s stylized to look goofy. Goofy is the wrong style for Metroid and would undermine everything else you could do with the setting. Ridley Scott’s “Alien” also would have been terrible if it were a cartoon done in that style no matter how well it held to every other aspect of the movie’s structure, pacing, etc. Let’s

I agree. The random avatar generation idea is really cool and a totally legit design choice. It’s just that they added it *after* most people had bought the game. This is less a story about RUST and really a story about Early Access and why it shouldn’t be supported. The developers should be free to make any game they

I’m pretty sure it is up to you. I think that’s kind of the point.

RUST: the game where everyone is trans*.

It’s the ultimate troll game feature and it’s catnip for game journalist commentary. It’s so easy to roll it all up into “look at all these racists who don’t want to be black!”, “Look at how white men freak out when they can’t play an avatar that looks like them! Now THEY know what it’s like for everybody else!”, etc.

Usually the first thing anyone does in RUST is die pretty quickly, so yes it is role-playing as yourself. The question is, what would you do in a survival situation if you could try over and over again and learn from your mistakes? Anyone could potentially learn to adapt to a harsh environment given enough luck, time,

I think the problem is that a lot of people already bought into the game before these changes were made. None of this was on the roadmap for the game and it kind of came out of nowhere. Sure they can go ahead and #notplayitthen, but they already payed for it and are getting screwed after the fact.

I get what you’re saying but your argument is misplaced here. RUST has no story, no characters, no structure, really. It is not an RPG it is a survival game. As such, the primary draw is a sense of urgency, possibility, and immersion. People are drawn to survival games because it’s about YOU being in an extreme

I do like the idea of respawning as a new character each time you die and I think they should do this provided there are enough penalties for death in the game that you would lose progress by committing suicide over and over again. Although hey people committing suicide because they don’t like their lot in life or

Finally a game with diverse character creation options where women and people of color will nonetheless be excluded from playing an avatar that looks like them.

If it delivers on ¼ of what it promises, it will either be Elite:Dangerous, Minecraft without building, Proteus, or Turok:Dinosaur Hunter.

I absolutely love it. I love love love it. It might be inspired by the colors in washed-out or color-distorted old media, but as applied to the crisp, almost cartoonish visuals it looks like something completely all its own. It reminds me of Proteus more than anything else as far as the overall visual feel.

Was wondering about that. Seems like they show up in all the demos as soon as you shoot a jackalope or whatever wacky animal is hopping around. I like the idea of the sentinels but it seems insane that they would be on every planet. Also wondering if there will be gas giants, desolate planets, etc, and what the ratio

It’s a good thing there are no scores on Steam, then. Just a series of “recommended” or “not recommended”. You can’t rate higher or lower, just yes or no. If the person who says “no” sounds like a douche in their review, I’ll look at other negative reviews and see if anyone brings up any points which speak to me. Then

I think the cycle of hype/credulity from fans and the inevitable backlash that results, is more damaging to the game industry than cynicism or skepticism towards grand promises. The psychology and marketing techniques that made Star Citizen’s funding happen, also gave us day1 DLC, pre-order culture, “vertical slice”

I’m not skeptical about when the game will release, I’m skeptical about whether or not it will release at all. $85 million is amazing from a crowd-funding perspective. Meanwhile in the AAA development world, is it even close to the amount of money it realistically costs to build a game of this scope? I think it’s

Thanks! Good to know!
