My friends would go the same route on 3v3. If only a single player was left we’d make it a 2v2 and start rooting for them. Anyone can bail on a game, I respect the ones that hang around.

Same here in Rocket League. Me and a buddy play 2v2's and if one guy leaves then we rotate 1v1 every point.
