You can jump, shoot, and use your pogo stick, and it's still deep and challenging because of what the game throws at you — the level design, in that instance. I don't agree this sort of simplicity is applicable to every genre, but it's undeniably a beautiful thing.

@Dr Durdon: Playing the demo forced me to shell out for the full game. The little taste they give you is just too intriguing. I still haven't played much of the full version, but I'm guessing I'm gonna like it a lot better than McWhertor did.

TF2 is NOT the only game of this kind. It's silly that they aped the cartoon look of the human characters, but beyond that, this doesn't steal from TF2 any more blatantly than any deathmatch games steal from each other.

@vidhagans: A good way to determine price is by setting an hourly rate for your labor and then recording how long it takes to make one. If the price ends up being crazy high, you're either paying yourself too much or taking too damn long to finish each project — time to systematize.

@shouryuuken: some of these were well known back in the day: Sky Roads, Hexagon, Commander Keen 4, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, Terminal Velocity, Ultima Underworld, all the id, Apogee and 3D Realms games, especially their FPSs.

@vidhagans: Set a base price on Etsy, show examples of other work, and instruct buyers to PM you with their custom requests. Lots of people do it. I got a custom necklace made for my wife that way.
