My last car was a 2001 Vw with the 2.0, and they're torque-y at low rpms, makes it feel quicker than it actually is.

How can the 1st gen xB (108hp/105tq-1.5) ever be considered "Spritely"? Being dog slow was one of the reasons why in the second gen the camry 2.4 engine was put in (158hp/162tq-2.4). Many things can be said about the Scion xB, but "Spritely" isn't a word that should be used for either generation.

Las gen Corolla XRS had 180hp VVTL-I engine from the Celica GTS. Same engine was also used in the Lotus Elise. The engine was great, the wrapper was the problem. Toyota still makes the XRS but its not a performance version anymore, just an appearance package.
