@AndPreciousLittleofThat: I agree with labeled—she had her time and place, but spouting that woman-blaming, virgin-whore shit in this day and age is just pathetic.

@labeled: I mean, considering the source for a minute, she's just spouting the "wisdom" of her generation. It wouldn't irritate me as much if there weren't people who still believe that shit.

Oh, those poor men! Men, of course, are unable to make their own decisions and thus their wives are always to blame when men cheat, go to hookers, break the law, etc.

@rixatrix: What you say is absolutely true, but I really don't buy that a reporter like Gilbert would be so completely ignorant that she'd believe that the modern "love-marriage" ideal is the only one out there. She'd have to be oblivious to all historical facts about how women have lived for the past few millenia.

@PilgrimSoul: Shit, I'd better get one of those! I'm totally inauthentic!

@Rooo sez BISH PLZ: I find that staggering, considering how much time she's spent in countries like India and Indonesia, where arranged marriages are common.

To her dismay, she finds that marriage has, traditionally, frequently been a business exchange that subjugates women.

@meritxell: an erotic life: I would put a lot of money on Franklin Mint. Probably one of those smiling long-haired Jesus ones.

@cate3710: I'm sure they let them fly at other times, the way trained police dogs get to run and play in their off-hours.

@bluebears: The screen doesn't glow at all—it mimicks the flatness of a piece of paper. The resolution's very good—it's technically a grey-on-grey screen, but it just looks like a page.

@DonnaPirana: I've never used a Kindle without using my computer—but I suppose you could use the computer at a public library or internet cafe if you wanted. Wouldn't be very convenient, though.

@bluebears: The e-readers now are about the same size as a paperback book and not backlit, so they don't cause eyestrain, they don't flicker, and the print size is as big or bigger than a printed book. It's surprisingly comfy to read and it will only get better as the technology improves.

@PilgrimSoul: Nah. Whether the book's displayed on a screen or on a page, the author will still get paid for writing it.

The price of e-readers is going to have to come WAY down for 95% of books to be read on screens. And since you can't use a Kindle or a Sony Reader without a computer, ownership of personal computers will have to go WAY up too.

Congrats, Anna!

@hortense: I've come to the conclusion that anything to do with the Lohans is bound to be tragic.

@bluebears: That's because Christian fundamentalists tend to be pro-Israel; Joe is willing to hang with any pro-Israel hawks he can find, even ones who disdain Jews and only like Israel because they think the Jews there will usher in the End Times.
