I work for a VAWA-funded DV program, and concern over pay is a legitimate concern, too. I have to make money in order to live. I would prefer to make money as a DV advocate, and if I worked at a for-profit job I would certainly volunteer some of my time to DV agencies, but I couldn’t realistically volunteer 40 hours a

Which is terrifying and horrible for a number of reasons.

I was just going to say that all of us Coastal Elites with any discretionary cash to spend should donate to these institutions ASAP to keep them alive. At this point, fuck any of the yokels who voted for Trump; let the programs that may help them crash and burn so they know the hell they hath wrought.

It infuriates me when people say the nonprofit sector will step in when government policies move out. We are already failing to plug all the holes, despite our best effort. It is not what a nonprofit is designed to do.

So just to be clear:

What’s even more frustrating to me is that we already learned that lesson after the crash of 1929. Hoover thought that private charity could fill the void, but the economy got worse and more people were starving while his administration did nothing. The only way to right the ship was to make the biggest fish in the

It’s difficult and inefficient. I’ve been a nonprofit worker for ~10 years and I believe that the nonprofit sector plays a very important role in society but it is fundamentally not designed to fill the void of a ruined government.

Sames. Although having worked in the nonprofit sector for the last 15 years, I can say with confidence that having to rely on donors (private individuals, foundations, and/or corporate) for 100% of your revenue is a shit show.

And these are the people who claim to be Christians.

You are much more positive than I am. White supremacy is a hell of a drug, and when white people have it bad, they take it out on us. Every time. Hard times don’t make them give a damn.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had white supremacists in the white house. Black folks can get through this the same way we always have. And this may (almost certainly) be my darker side talking here, but i hope that whites feel a fraction of what blacks and other minorities have and will have to go through and learn

Sure, she lost because her campaign was just horrible. No. other. reason...

Bill Clinton fake-coughs into his hand. “I’m so sick,” he drawls. “I think I’ll bail and just binge-watch some ‘Criminal Minds’ instead.”

I’m not old enough to remember the details of Bush’s legacy....but this letter will always be a way of looking back to a time when things weren’t as they are now.

Seriously I’m so sick of people ignoring and suppressing discussion of all the horrid unending controversies because talking about the room being on fire is somehow divisive.

Tradition doesnt mean shit. Women not getting to vote was a tradition. So was slavery.

I sort of get the idea they’re going for here, but any organization that has the empowerment of girls as its central motivation cannot claim to be “non-political” in the country and world we’re living in.

My democratic ideals also tell me to raise fucking hell when someone is attacking our civil liberties and frankly attacking our democratic ideals.

Escaped poverty? Where did you get that idea? Melania is from a middle class family. She is from a small town, and she hardly grew up in a gold-plated vomitorium like the Trumps, but in no way was the Knauss family poor.
