It’s kind of interesting, this episode ended up being a little bit of a Rorschach test for me. The last episode, 73 yards, got me very comfortable with Gatwa’s Doctor, I think he even channeled a bit of Eccleston (a very good thing, at least for my tastes). I was worried based upon the first few episodes that they

Maybe. But Germain is still around. Let him have a try.

I don’t want every episode of DW to be like this. But if they are going to aim for contemporary satire or allegory with a critical eye, I’d prefer it if they swing big and miss than not try at all. And this one landed for me.

You missed the mark on this one, period, James. Everything in the episode is preparing you for that ending if you’re really watching it. Lindy outright rejects the Doctor and only listens to Ruby because she looks similar to the Finetime people. Even when they are giving advice, she is showing disdain to these

I only watched this episode once. I felt a sense of dread throughout much of it, but I was able to compartmentalize it and keep it moving. But, near the end, things got really uncomfortable because I was seeing myself in The Doctor’s shoes.

I’m curious, how many times did you watch this episode?

James, I like your reviews, but honestly, it is like you are the only one writing reviews at io9.  Why not give someone else a crack at it.  It would be interesting to see someone else’s critique of the shows I watch without having to scroll down to the comments.

I can not recommend this series enough. I personally think this is the best animated show in many years my last favourite being Primal from Genndy Tartakovsky. This series is a love letter from so many artists to Moebius, Heavy Metal magazine and various other genres and content.

I hate that good sci-fi gets axed so often. This show blew my fucking mind. Especially that one scene with the little guy. If you’ve seen the show, you know exactly what I’m referring to. That scene haunted me for days afterwards. I’m glad it’s getting another chance but like the article says, it shouldn’t have had to

Only 3.9% of US farms have make over $1 million annually over the last ten years, though, according to the USDA’s Economic Research Service. 81.4% make less than $100,000 per year. So if both our numbers are true, that average consists of a small number of US farms which make well over a million and enormous amount of

“Refreshing” is a good word for it. So few beneficiaries will admit this. We keep seeing interviews of these entertainers claiming, “We actually have to work even harder than everyone else...” and other nonsense. That’s the part that I’m tired of — the denials, the gaslighting, the woe-is-me attitude, as if we will be

Nepo babies, dad makes your dreams come true.

For me, I like the complete experience to be there when I dedicate time to a game.

Even in the first film, I found it weird that Riley’s emotions are multi-gender but other people’s seem to strictly align with the gender of the person they inhabit. Unless Riley is a stealth gender-fluid character?

It’s interesting how these ‘cleaning house to go in a new direction’ layoffs never seem to clean out the people at the top that greenlit all the bad decisions that led to the layoffs...

I’m puzzled over the retconning of the first film’s approach too, but my understanding is that we’ll see some of the new emotions as they exist in the adults as well. (There’s even a joke revealing Nostalgia is also an emotion - but Riley’s not old enough for that to be in play yet.)

The fact that its star is in another revenge action movie at literally the same time (Boy Kills World) doesn’t help differentiate it either.

If you haven’t watch Scavenger’s Reign... watch it.

On a related note, if you haven’t watched Fired on Mars, watch it. SR is getting a lot of buzz from the niche crowd, but FoM isn’t getting any buzz from anyone and it’s wonderful!

My enthusiasm for the Crow reboot keeps dropping, which I wouldn’t have thought was possible.
