I really enjoyed this Slate piece on the treatment that both Kim Novak and Liza got at the Oscars. The part that got me was the use of the "she should grow old GRACEFULLY like so-and-so" regarding Novak, as I saw that a lot on my Facebook feed during the Oscars. When people say that, they are typically referring to…
It's probably a feral cat in a warehouse somewhere, and feral cats can be very difficult to locate in the first place, and then you'd have to set the kittens out and hope she returned for them. Which she probably wouldn't.

Me too, those cutesy nicknames are obnoxious. The trouble was she came off less like, "I don't care for that annoying nickname people call me" and more like, "How dare you belittle and diminish me? Don't you know who I am? I am Scarlett Motherfucking Johansson: genius, auteur, and national treasure."
Can we officially declare anti-vegetarians as more irritating then vegetarians already? I've witnessed vegetarians living up to the "smug, self-righteous" stereotype maybe once in my life. Yet hardly a week goes by where I don't witness meat-eaters making a bunch of shrill remarks about how insufferable vegetarians…
I know! Who the hell just throws a bottle out of the window?
This. You should not litter. You should also not be a mega-celebrity throwing your trash onto a street that is actually many many many people's home. It is disrespectful on multiple levels.
"I think it's different when you have an office job because it's routine and you know you can do all the stuff in the morning, and then you come home in the evening," she said. "When you're shooting a movie, they're like, 'We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,' and then you work 14 hours a day, and that…
Yeah, I felt weird announcing it anywhere because sometimes I don't know how much of myself I should give to the internet. But I did put up a kind of oblique post about it on my tumblr and then, IDK, I'm just really excited and happy and I feel pretty comfortable with my little afternoon Dirt Bag crowd, so, yeah.…
My older brother has Down Syndrome. There have been rough days in my life where he has been almost the only source of faith I have in all of humanity. People are awful, my brother never disappoints me and never fails to inspire me.
Okay, um, that was rude, but that sentence was in reference to the plane being diverted somewhere else with the passengers still alive and on board. Which means they landed somewhere. So presumably they are not still at 30,000 feet in the middle of the "freaking ocean."
I wish they would use the word rape in these news articles. 'Forced to commit acts of prostitution'= she was raped by her kidnappers and then raped by multiple other men to the financial benefit of her captors.
As someone with a mental disability I've been a victim of people who expect me to just know how they want me to behave. Someone kept saying something was wrong with me, I shouldn't behave a certain way, but never told me how I was behaving wrong. I was just supposed to know. Many people with mental disabilities don't…
I love how NO ONE recognizes Weevil, now that he has hair. I've seen three group pictures of the cast, and each one has comments about, "Where's Weevil?!?" Um, he has hair now, and he's on the left. Love it.
It's mostly because I work the night shift, I stay up and watch Jimmy and I madly in love with him and his show. I think the videos are really entertaining and funny and judging by the success of these posts, so do the readers! So yeah, I'm going to do my best to post them at night or the next day. Thanks!
When you speed up the music that much, and it fucks with your phrasing, it also fucks with your breath control. Poor breath, poor pitch. Sucks for Idina. The orchestra ruined it for her.
That said, even on a perfect night, that song is a beast to sing, live or otherwise. Very few people on the planet can sing it…
The orchestra was in another building. They couldn't play to her, so she had to sing to them. She realizes that they are playing too fast, so she tries to speed up her phrasing to get ahead of the music and give her time to breathe. Didn't work. She did the best she could given the absolute crap hand she was dealt.
I was thinking that, too. And the line about them "never receiving compensation" creeps me out. They weren't prostitutes, they were sex slaves and there isn't such a thing as compensation for rape!
