I liked the movie when I first saw it, but I think I knew then that it was a flash in the pan thing and wouldn't hold up at all. That said, though, I've always liked the soundtrack (a big part of why (maybe the main reason) I liked the movie in the first place) and I don't think that is misplaced affection.

Obviously, this is the MOST important thing she's got on her plate today.

Waitaminute. It's Knight's Watch, not Night's Watch? One of us is screwed up on something and I don't know which.

I stumbled on some of these GIFs recently and, having been unaware that this was an issue, was totally unprepared. It was very upsetting and traumatic, and it did cause me to avoid Jez. It also made me feel extremely upset on behalf of Jez writers who have to deal with it.

I think the stamps would be totally fine if Harry Potter was American literature rather than British. But then again I don't really know all the nuances of stamp decisions. I mean, I like it when there are pandas and tigers on my stamps, and those certainly aren't American either.

thank you!

I obviously didn't mean that "the statistics" are the victims. I am clearly not communicating my thoughts well (or you are deliberately twisting what I said). Basically, for the sake of our discussion, let's say there are two types of stories about tragedies:

What is different about this story is that it is personal. It is about this girl. When I said "if someone were to do a story on them" I meant the individuals involved, not a body count. When the victims are people rather than statistics, it is more likely to trigger a deeply empathetic response.

It didn't bother me when you asked. It bothered me when you persisted in challenging me on it after I'd already answered your question.

OK, buddy. You are just policing my emotions. Why?

Actually I did cry over FGM today (well, yesterday), but that is neither here nor there. I agree with you that there is so much horribleness going on in the world including mass shootings.

Every time I think about this girl, I start crying. I hope she can find peace one day.

Wait, Nora Ephron died?

She is a damn delight.

oh no now I am afraid my eyeliner is terrible.

oh, I just found another article about it. It looks like he DID use threat of force or violence and she did NOT willingly have sex with him. He went in through a window at a house where she was attending a sleepover. He also apparently fled to Mexico after the arrest warrant was issued.

Appreciate the response, and I am not one for raging debates or fights. The thing that makes me mad about this situation is the coverage, more than the sentence (which I don't feel qualified to comment on). You say that this girl willingly had sex with him, and it only counts as rape because of her age. But actually

oh shit! just the other day I stopped traffic on a busy street for a family of ducks. glad I didn't get arrested.

yeah, I just cannot. here is an uncut excerpt from the article:
