She was in Grumpier Old Men, too. Sophia Loren’s mother.

Millie was probably my favourite character on The Dick van Dyke Show. Her delivery was just superb.
THIS is the argument I’ve had with those who I consider NOT my friends (also know as the “An AR doesn’t do that much damage” cuntbags). I work in Emergency Medicine and believe me, If I had to (touch wood) be shot with a gun and a choice, I’d go handgun/pistol all the way. That’s repairable (mostly; unless someone has…
Tell me about it. I’m vegetarian, and since I left school (where I guess people are just more accepting of experimenting?), I’ve gotten a lot of shit about it from coworkers and customers.
PETA is why I hate telling people I’m vegan.
Because it happens all the time, I guess. Nothing to see here. Just normal everyday America. Dudes being dudes. Blah blah blah god this is sad as fuck
On that topic, I know that we are reading about this on Jezebel — but does the mainstream news report on the ever-increasing rash of these women murdered by intimates or rejected paramours? If this had taken place in Pakistan, and someone threw acid in her face, it would be front page news, here, yes? But another…
I hope someone is keeping track of women murdered by present or former partners the way the Post is tracking deaths by shooting. Would be illuminating to see it all in one place.
Exactly this. I think if you are going to have a draft at all then it is unfair and ridiculous to only require it for men. And I also believe that every single job in the military should be only based on the mental and/or physical requirements to do the job, not gender. Can’t carry over 100 lbs on your back for miles…
I’m agnostic on the draft itself, but if we are going to have it then all citizens who are fit to serve should be required to register.
True story: my 70-year-old father (well, he was a couple of years younger at the time) saw MGMT in concert and hated them. When he told me, I was so flabbergasted I couldn’t speak for a second, and then I said “WHY did you see MGMT?” Turns out they were playing and he was bored, so he went to check them out. I mean,…
I stopped in the middle of the article and wrote a check to Dr. Hern’s clinic. Thank you for reporting this, Jia, and Elizabeth, thank you for sharing your story. If I could I’d buy you a drink of your choice.
I got the impression that they went to him because he had the experience and expertise to ensure that she got through the procedure alive. The article mentioned that she has health issues unrelated to her reproductive system and this doctor was probably the best to take all of that into consideration.
Dr. Hern’s office also appreciates if you send them gift cards that they give to patients who travel in for treatment (Whole Foods & Target are good gift card options, Whole Foods is across the street).
Thank you Jia. I am 35 and currently 31 weeks pregnant. As soon as I read about the cost and the roof, I was going to find a way to donate to him. I already donate regularly to Women’s Medical Fund because access to abortion is a basic human right. I am pretty amazed that being pregnant with my wanted baby has made me…
Thank you for this interview, Jia. I work for an abortion fund (not in Colorado but we do work with Dr. Hern’s clinic) and I talk to women who have to travel out of state (we have a 20 wk ban) for similar reasons. It’s always difficult and heartbreaking, and the lack of awareness and empathy makes it even worse. I’m…
I just want to highlight this passage for anyone who skims or just jumps to the comments. Because truer words.
god fucking damn it, the pull-out method. As a public health worker, I just have to cringe.
How selfless and incredible of this woman to share such a painful, heartbreaking yet insightful story. So much love going out to her.
