As someone who’s mother looked the other way on multiple occasions, and is now old enough to look back and recognize it, yes it’s strange and frustrating. I’m not sure that I’ll let my kids ever spend a lot of time with her (if I ever have any) just because I can’t trust her judgement when it comes to who is safe to

I never told my mom and she died without a clue. I was so worried about getting in trouble because I was convinced that I let it happen so it was my fault. I thought they would take me aaway from my mom and she would go to jail like some other kids in town (their mom was at fault in that she was pimping them outfor

It’s entirely possible. Children go years being abused without parents knowing/pretending not to know. And abusers have ways of keeping survivors silent. So if the children never speak out, I’d imagine it would be quite easy, especially in that environment, where any telling behavior of the child could just be chalked

I once worked for a company where I had to have a government security clearance. When you are under the protection of the Secret Service it can take up quite a bit of space. The Secret Service will set up an office where all of the security cameras and motion detection will be monitored. If the house doesn’t already

That story misses the main point. They are living there so their daughter can stay in her high school. For most people that limits where can live. I would assume for the former president and family the logistics limit things even further.

The article says they need extra room for the Secret Service.

Gorgeous house, just gorgeous. I love driving through the neighborhoods of the Rock Creek Park area; they are all amazing. That Kelly woman is an idiot, though. No fucking way is the Secret Service going to allow a former President to move into a struggling DC neighborhood, even if he wanted to (and really, why would

I get the feeling that Obama could run into a burning building and singlehandedly rescue an entire Lamaze class full of women and fetuses, plus a basket full of adorable puppies, and certain people would still find something to criticize about it.

Imagine the good it could do a struggling DC neighborhood if [Obama] moved in and established himself as the figurehead of the community, showing his face at local spots and bringing a sense of excitement.

It seems perfect to me. Large, beautiful, secure. Two term president, a very good one, deserves a nice house.

Honestly, did other presidents get judged for where they moved after they were done?

Yup I’m wondering just how many were criticizing Bush for not living in a run down neighborhood as an example to the community.

So she’s saying the rich black family shouldn’t live in a nice neighborhood?

Don’t. Please.

wow. #hotTake.

Its not a collection problem, its a harrassment problem. If there is a legitimate debt, file a suit in court and go to it. But calling all hours of the day or night or calling unrelated parties isn’t collection, its harrassment.

I have zero debt and get debt collector robocalls constantly. If I were a person with debt, or perhaps elderly or more gullible, I could se this becoming something far worse than an annoyance.

I hope you never lose your job. I hope you never face unexpected and crushing debt due to something like medical costs. I also hope you don’t get your identity stolen, because that’s always the victim’s fault.

Identity theft victims have to deal with debt collectors. I pay all my bills in full. Get off the high horse.

Same here, but I also try not to judge other people’s decisions based on my own situation. I don’t think it has anything to do with victimizing or keeping the government from collecting their debts. It’s just setting up guidelines so those calls don’t get out of hand—preventing calls to friends and family members, for
