It really saddens me because there's a clear tendency in our culture to assume that female writers with female protagonists are merely writing a diary, while male writers with male protagonists are creating universal, relatable works of art. It doesn't surprise me at all that the broader media doesn't get that a woman

That's the thing for me. Why the fuck are they coming for a woman, Dunham, whose done nothing but succeed and not put her foot in her mouth? With their past animus toward Paltrow, I could kind of get it. But they also used to come hard for Zoey Deschanel and that's when I started to side-eye the editors.

Haha, right?

This x1000. Do they really think that having parents in the art world automatically gets you a 4 seasons on HBO? Hell no. There are a shitload of examples where the nepotism card has been played and it is warranted, but this is not such a case. I feel like someone at Jezebel must have a personal vendetta against her

AGREED. Totally.

I can only speak for my social circle (late 20 to early 40s Texans), but she seems way more relevant than the NYT. Which is to say, medium-relevant.
The stuff written about her (good and bad) is so much more annoying than she herself is.

I expect a lot of complaints about a pizza cutter being a pain in the ass to clean, so I'm going to cut them all off right now. It's time to upgrade your 20th century design.

It's not a 1st Amendment issue.

I stopped reading Thought Catalog a long while ago, because of the shit like that they were posting Gavin McInnes being one of the main offenders. Aside from being trans-phobic and racist , they were extremely misogynistic.

I've really come to the point where I find web 1.0 to be far more enjoyable (in retrospect) than what we have now. I recall the days when the majority of websites were personal and simply filled with cool stuff (of a techie/geek variety, generally). Now it's all corporate and walled off and concerned with the killer

Yes yes and yes. I guess I hesitate to call it emotional manipulation because I'd like to believe he came at me with (what he might believe) to be good intentions and he just did not have the proper social tools to go about it the correct way. These may be naive assumptions as it was clear that I had no interest in

oh no - I love Jimmy Johns - their vegetarian sandwiches are delicious - there's something about the cheese that is just addictive. Also, he is an alum of the university where i work. This is very depressing.

Why are you so quick to beat her down? I just don't see why this is worth saying...

That is what privileged old people with boring life's say. I have known 18 year old's who have lived and experienced more than most people do in their entire life. '

I am so thrilled for her! Started following her blog when she was 14 or so and, despite being 15 years her senior, found her words spoke to my soul, and not just the leftover adolescent parts. I still read Rookie. The articles are of course directed toward a younger set than mine, but the truths they tell are

Have been an unabashed fan girl right from the start — and I'm an old. She has a lot to say that is wise beyond her years. Always interesting and fun, and a fresh perspective. She's even made me think differently about my time in H.S. — which for years I thought was one big Fail but now realize didn't go that badly

She seems like a really cool kid. Though her accomplishments do make me feel like I should have done great things earlier on in life...and I'm not even grown! She's too cool for Earth! Send her to space!

Hey, did you hear? There's LITERALLY LAWS against the wage gap, so it must not exist.

THERE ISN'T A PAY GAP (attempts to explain the pay gap)

...

Damn. Guess we can all go home now.
